Recognition

The Foundation recognizes the dedication, effort and sacrifice of the men and women of the Department, both sworn and civilian.  We believe it is important to recognize and show appreciation for their efforts.

Honor our DPD Heroes

This annual event recognizes officers who are awarded Medals of Honor, Valor, Preservation of Life, Distinguished Service Crosses and Purple Hearts as well as the Officer of the Year. The event is hosted by the Denver Police Foundation and is attended by community and business leaders as well as officers and their families.

Successes:

Officers who have gone over and above the usual call of duty are celebrated for their bravery and dedication. Since it’s inception, the Foundation has honored 123 officers. They are recognized with proclamations from Denver’s Mayor and highlighted for their service in The Denver Post.


Denver Police Department Employee Recognition and Appreciation Luncheon

Amount: $20,000

Support for the second annual all employee recognition lunch.

Successes:

Chief White developed a special event to recognize the accomplishments of all officers and civilians at the DPD. The event celebrates the DPD and provides the opportunity for the Command Staff and the Denver Police Foundation to say a huge “thank you”.

Law Enforcement United Memorial Bicycle Ride

2016
Matching funds to enable two Denver police officers to participate in this memorial celebrating fallen officers.
Impact: The officers representing the Denver Police Department joined others from throughout the country to recognize the contributions of fellow officers killed in the line of duty.

Police Foundation of Colorado Springs

2016
Support for the Colorado Springs “Medal of Valor” luncheon recognizing outstanding efforts of Colorado Springs officers.
Impact: Recognition for Colorado Springs officers who have gone beyond the call of duty.

Denver PPA Relief Fund

Support for the charitable activities of the PPA providing services to DPD officers.
Impact: Direct services to officers needing individual and family assistance are provided.

Denver Police Officers’ Foundation – Fundraising Bowling Tournament

Operating support for the Denver Police Officers’ Foundation that offers “financial assistance to active Denver Police officers or immediate members of the officer’s family during times of medical emergency, death, long-term illness or any other crisis.”
Impact: Continued support for these important services to Denver Police Officers.

Denver Police Department’s Children’s Academy

2016
Support for an academy for the children of first responders.
Impact: Special programs were provided to children including obstacle courses, police equipment, a “kid-friendly” version of range training and other activities. DPD personnel provided the programs to about 500 participants.

Directed grant of $13,755 matched by $3,000 from the DPF for the 2015 Yearbook featuring all officers, department accomplishments and specialized programs.
Impact: Yearbooks were very successful and well received by officers.

Denver Police Officers’ Foundation (DPOF) Memorial Celebration

Support for the upkeep of the Denver memorial and annual lunch to honor fallen officers.
Impact: The annual luncheon was attended by City dignitaries and over 350 community representatives to honor fallen officers.

Denver Police Officers’ Foundation (DPOF) – Police Officers’ Ball

Operating support for the Denver Police Officers’ Foundation that offers “financial assistance to active Denver Police officers or immediate members of the officer’s family during times of medical emergency, death, long-term illness or any other crisis.”
Impact: Continued support for these important services to Denver Police Officers. Examples of DPOF programs include “Heal as you Feel Program”, “Retired Officers’ Assistance Fund”, “Bensard Family Medical Scholarship.”
